What is a free sample edit?

A sample edit allows you to see how I work so that you can decide (without obligation) if you’d like to work with me. Not every editor is the right fit for the client or project, so this is a great way of seeing if we are the right fit for each other — and it’s totally free! Just get in touch and I’ll ask you to send me an extract from your manuscript of between 1-2K words. Please note: this service is not available for children’s book edits because they are usually below 1K words. Likewise, any project below 5K words will not be eligible for a free sample edit.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, I do. A non-refundable 25%-50% deposit (depending on the size of your project) is required to book your spot. This will be deducted from the overall total. The remaining balance will be paid as discussed depending on your preferred payment method. I will send a separate invoice for each payment.

Do you require me to list you as my editor in my acknowledgments?

Nothing in my contract currently requires you to do so, but it would be appreciated! I do ask clients for a testimonial once work is completed and am always grateful for any referrals.

Do we sign a contract?

Absolutely! A contract or service agreement is primarily in place to protect my clients’ intellectual property. However, it also offers me protection as a freelancer. I send my terms and conditions after we have had a little chat and a free sample edit, and we are happy to go ahead with the project together.

Do you offer discounts?

All of my rates are within industry standards, according to EFA and CIEP guidelines. I do offer occasional promotions to regular clients when I can. However, as a freelance editor, I advocate for freelancers making a fair wage.

How long do you need to deliver work?

The length of time required for a project to be completed depends entirely on the length and complexity of the project. It also depends on which service you require as some services I offer are more in-depth than others. Please get in touch with me for a chat today so that we can discuss your needs further.

What do you edit?

I edit anything from website copy to short stories, presentations, non-fiction, fiction, and so much more. I specialise in children’s books (from picture to YA), but this is only because of my background in education and a special interest in this genre. However, I am a trained and qualified copy editor, who is comfortable editing any style of copy I am presented with. Do you really plant a tree on behalf of your clients?
